Aphrodisiacs for Women

While we most commonly hear about aphrodisiacs for men, like ginseng, for example, women can also benefit from aphrodisiacs in the same way!

In this blog post, we'll delve into the world of aphrodisiacs, focusing on five key herbs for women: cacao, ashwagandha, damiana, Shatavari, and wild yam.

Aphrodisiacs for women

Just like our list of herbs for men, our herbal aphrodisiacs also help to bring blood flow to our sexual organs, and act as overall reproductive tonics for our womb space. On an energetic level, aphrodisiacs may open the heart. They are also excellent synergistic herbs, working well to balance formulas, and may help to reduce your overall stress levels and support your immune system which supports you having a nice, fun, sexy time!

1. Cacao:

Cacao, the primary ingredient in chocolate, has long been associated with feelings of pleasure and arousal. This delicious treat contains compounds such as phenylethylamine (PEA) and anandamide, which are known to promote feelings of happiness and relaxation. Additionally, cacao is rich in flavonoids that support cardiovascular health, improving blood flow and potentially enhancing erectile function in the clitoris.

Cacao is a plant, but we consume cacao in our diet instead of taking in tincture format, for example. So think of ways to incorporate dark chocolate or raw cacao into your diet to provide a sensual and health-boosting indulgence. You could try adding cacao nibs to smoothies, sprinkling them over yogurt, or enjoying a piece of high-quality dark chocolate as a delightful aphrodisiac treat! Always share with your partner because cacao is an incredibly aphrodisiac for women too!

2. Ashwagandha:

Ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, has garnered attention for its ability to reduce stress, increase energy levels, and support hormonal balance in both men and women. These properties make ashwagandha a valuable ally in combating the negative effects of stress and fatigue on your libido.

By reducing stress hormone levels, ashwagandha helps create a more fertile environment in the body. It also supports reproductive health by balancing hormones and enhancing vitality. As a Clincial Herbalist, I love working with clients and this herb as a long-term supportive herb for stress management and as a work-life balancing strategy.

3. Damiana:

Damiana, a herb native to Central and South America, has a long history of use as an aphrodisiac and fertility enhancer. It's believed to increase sexual desire and arousal by stimulating blood flow and promoting relaxation. For women aiming to enhance their fertility journey, Damiana may offer a natural way to ignite passion and intimacy while supporting reproductive health.

4. Shatavari:

Shatavari, an Ayurvedic herb also known for its nurturing properties for female reproductive health. It's often used to balance hormones, support ovulation, and regulate menstrual cycles. By promoting a healthy hormonal balance, Shatavari can create an optimal environment for conception and overall fertility

5. Wild Yam:

If you're struggling with early pregnancy or have a history of reoccurring loss, or have painful periods, this herb is one you might want to have on hand in your home apothecary. Wild Yam will help ease any pelvic pain and support your hormones!

Exploring aphrodisiacs is fun!

Exploring natural aphrodisiacs can be a rewarding journey for women and men who are looking for ways to enhance their libido and sexual vitality. While individual responses may vary, incorporating aphrodisiacs into your lifestyle can support overall sexual health and well-being for the long run!

Remember that introducing herbal remedies to your life is a journey and it’s best to consult with a professional, like myself, a Clinical Herbalist before introducing new medicines, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking medications.
