Hey Radical Soul! I’m Nessa,
I’m the owner and founder of Radical Mother and I have been working professionally in women’s perinatal care since 2016.
In my classes and in my life, you will find a lot of nerdiness about plants and the body, a sprinkle of cheeky spiritual and energetic stuff, and a deep love for babies and reproductive justice. My mission in life is to help women understand their bodies, empower others to ask “why?”, create beautiful medicine, and connect with nature.
I am currently living in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada with my children and my circus of cats and dogs. I have a big beautiful garden full of food and medicine that I draw from and tend to which keeps me grounded and full of hope.

My Story
Pregnancy was the first time I really tuned in to my body and really, truly, cared about my health. I did all the things they told me to do while pregnant, like avoid certain foods and beverages, and maybe take a prenatal vitamin. I was NOT actually prepared for birth and parenting in any way. Surprise, surprise! I ended up with a really disempowering and traumatizing hospital birth experience, a break down of my marriage and a whole bunch of chronic health issues (which I’ve managed to resolve!).
With my second kiddo, I knew I would really focus on holistic pregnancy and home birth and dove into all of the research and ways I could accomplish this. I had a beautiful home birth, discovered my power as a woman and a mother, and haven’t stopped researching and continuing on the holistic path ever since!
When I look back, I can see the beginnings of this journey actually happened much earlier, I just didn’t know it yet. As a child, for example, I asked “why?” a lot which drove my single mother crazy. Thankfully, I never stopped and that question has carried me through this life. After the birth of my children, I became a Doula, Childbirth Educator, and Clinical Herbalist, and dove deep into the broken bits and bobs of our North American health care systems.
I took that childhood rebellious nature and turned into my empowered calling.
Now I guide other women to ask why. I help them get back in the driver’s seat of their own health so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their families!
