Eastern Hemlock Tea
My son and I went for a few walks in the woods during his winter break from school. I think he got some snow in his hood in this photo. I may have shaken a few cedars over head for a bit of a winter wonderland effect at his request! On our walk, we found lots of beautiful trees covered in snow. Some of their branches graced the ground, so we picked them up to explore them more closely to figure out which tree branches belonged to which tree. Usually we see a lot of cedar!
One of the forests we walk in is a small patch of woods close to Hwy 7, has Eastern Hemlock. They are very slow growing trees and live for hundreds of years, so they likely contain very wise medicine on top of their amazing vit C content. I decided to take a few fallen branches home and make a cup of tea. The flavour was really similar to Pine tea, light, foresty, and delicious.
Here’s how to make your own cup of Hemlock Tea.
